My Current Muse

My current obsession with House of Cards is underway. I've never been big on politics because most politicians are corrupted to some degree, and push money around to get what they want. But I am loving the characters on this show, especially Claire Underwood (Robin Wright), the wife of Congressman Frank Underwood and the Executive Director of the Clean Water Initiative. She's smart, poised, but absolutely ruthless; however, her contact with her former lover humanizes her. I admire the fact that she's a woman with ambition and knows what she wants and will do what she needs to do achieve her goals no matter who she has to cross. She doesn't need anyone's approval, not even her own husband's. She's the bitch that gets shit done. And when I realized Claire is Jenny from Forest Gump. MY MIND WAS BLOWN. She's so freakin hot!

Claire and Frank's relationship is interesting. They have what you would call an "open marriage," a partnership. They sleep with other people and keep no secrets from each other. Open relationships aren't my cup of tea, but as long as those two people are happy with the arrangement it doesn't matter what anyone else thinks. I do however sometimes question Claire's emotional connection with her ex. It could just be sex between past lovers, but it seems that there is more depth to their relationship, and I'm wondering why they didn't stay together. But women that seem to have it all together always fall for the artsy types. They adore that free lifestyle. I won't go into many more details but check out the show for yourself if you haven't already.

 Claire reflects on Frank's proposal:

"Claire, if all you want is happiness say no. I’m not going to give you a couple of kids and count the days until retirement. I promise you freedom from that, I promise you’ll never be bored...He was the only one who understood me. He didn’t put me on some pedestal, he knew that I didn’t want to be adored or coddled."
