Fela!

I meant to post this last week. But I saw an amazing performance of Fela last Thursday night. The dancing and live band was incredible. I was glad I was able to learn more about his life and the impact he had in Nigeria. He was a global voice musically and sociopolitically. I can't get the sound of Afrobeat out of my head!

Super Bowl 2013

This has been a crazy weekend! My ladybug (car) broke down Friday night, and now it's time to consider buying a new car. I always said I would ride that car until the wheels fell off so I guess it's that time. So I've been cooped up in my apartment grinding over a big project in my global strategy class. I did get the chance to step out for mini photo shoot. You'll get to see those on a later post.

I know nothing about football but the Super Bowl was the highlight of my weekend.  I had to watch my girl Bey slay the stage during halftime! Her performance was absolutely AMAZING! I also enjoyed the commercials during the Super Bowl. My favorite commercials were Taco Bell, Volkswagon, and Dodge. What was your favorite commercial?

"It feels like someone kicked you in the stomach, feels like your heart stopped beating, feels like that dream you know the one when you are falling and you want so desperately to wake up before you hit the ground but it's all out of your control, you cant trust anything anymore, no one is who they say they are, your life is changed forever, and the only thing to come out of the whole ugly experience is no one will be able to break your heart like that again." -The Women

Inauguration Weekend 2013

This weekend I celebrated the second term of our President Barack Obama! I participated in a day of service in honor of Martin Luther King, Jr.,  attended an inaugural gala and attended the inauguration on the National Mall. I was debating if I really wanted to go because it was freezing and I hate large crowds, but I will never forget the emotions I felt as I watched our President get sworn in. We still had to watch from a huge screen but I witnessed history and I have never felt more proud to be an American. Everything from Obama's amazing speech, to Michelle's flawless attire, to Beyonce singing the national anthem, I was in awe of this moment. Our country has come so far and although the past four years have been challenging, I am looking forward to the progress our country can make in the next four years. The inaugural gala hosted by Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. was a very classy affair with performances by Raheem Devaughn and local DC jazz band, Spur of the Moment. Raheem's performance was great! He is such an underrated artist. I have been a fan since his first album so I was glad to finally get to hear him perform live. On Sunday I made my mom's sweet potato casserole and it was a hit! I'm getting much better at my domesticated skills. ;)

"The concept of Bleuphoria is deeply entrenched in the idea that love manifests itself in tones of blue. The deeper in love one falls, the deeper and more intense its color becomes. The revelation of love comes from God and one's self, resulting in a blissful and euphoric state. The cosmos factor into this equation as the foundation of it all. Love: deep and infinite. Like the vastness and depth of the universe, reaching beyond our skies, residing beneath our flesh and within our minds; this is Bleuphoria. Earth is Bleuphoria. The universe is Bleuphoria. We are Bleuphoria."
